This listing is for 2- Corporal uniform rank stencils (one for each sleeve).
Rather than sewing rank on uniform jackets it was common practice to stencil rank on uniforms using ink. This was a common practice seen among paratroopers, regular army, marines during WWII. While some were crudely done many were done with stencils.
Our reproductions are made using proper WWII chevron sizes cut into "sticky-back" vinyl stencil paper. The sticky backing on the stencil allows the user to apply the stencil to a jacket without risk of the stencil moving before the application of ink. The sticky backing also helps prevent ink from going into unwanted areas of the fabric.
Listing includes:
- Proper WWII sized chevrons
- 2- "sticky-back" vinyl stencils (one for each arm)
Application instructions:
- Iron the uniform sleeve where the stencil is to be applied
- Measure sleeve to ensure proper placement of the chevrons
- Remove the vinyl stencil from the backing paper. Be careful not to rip the areas between the chevrons
- Use an ink dauber to apply permanent waterproof ink in an "up and down" motion- do not rub the ink into the fabric or it will bleed into the fabric under the stencil
- After achieving the desired shade of black, remove the stencil.
- Use a clothes iron on the highest recommended heat setting for in order to heat treat the ink and make it permanent
Note that this listing does not include an ink pad or ink dauber/applicator. The listing is for two professionally made rank stencils
Note that SID44 recommends applying ink stencils to uniforms before the uniforms are treated with simulated CC2 uniforms as wax or other "CC2" materials may effect how the ink adheres to the fabric. SID44 recommends applying these stencils to uniforms before the uniforms are aged, CC2 treated, or otherwise altered.
