Heart Shield Bible

We love the "standard" pocket Bibles that we offer on our site but we wanted to make an "upgraded" version to recreate the famous "Heart Shield" Bible.  During the war these specialty Bibles were sold as a war bond in the United States.  When people purchased them they often shipped them to their loved ones stationed overseas.  The idea was, that the thickness of the Bible combined with the steel plate that was crimped around the cover would make them bullet proof so GI's could put them in their chest pocket to serve as a primitive form of body armor.

To create this reproduction we started by recreating the steel plate itself.  Using calipers we measured the thickness and exact size of every aspect of the plate to include the "ears" that wrap around the cover of the Bible.  Secondly we needed to match the "gold" finish.   It was advertised that original Heart Shield Bibles were a gold plated steel.  While some of them may have been plated with real gold (very unlikely) it is more likely that they meant a "gold" looking finish because the original Heart Shield Bibles bibles we used to create our reproduction were plated in brass.  Lastly for the Bible itself we went with a black color instead of our "standard" brown color because all the original Heart Shield bibles we have seen were black.

To our knowledge, these are the only historically accurate Heart Shield Bibles that have ever been made. 

Measuring at only 3"x4.5" this Bible fits into the shirt pocket of any WWII uniform.  Troops often carried these bibles in their left breast pocket to serve as not only a spiritual shield but a physical shield as well.  There are countless stories not only from WWII but even WWI and the Civil War talking about how a well placed bible stop bullets (probably ricochets) shrapnel, and bayonets from killing or seriously wounding servicemen around the world.

We pray that those who receive these bibles would be blessed by them and that they would be used to bless both Christians and non Christians alike in the name of Jesus.

****Please note that these Heart Shield Bibles do not have a perfect finish on the steel covers.  There will be small scuffs and light abrasions as seen in the product picture.  These are not defects but rather blemishes that occur during manufacturing and packaging.  The brass plating on these covers, is treated with a clear coat but may tarnish over time the same way originals did.****
