Leg Bag- "Quick Release"
Leg Bag- "Quick Release"
This listing is for 1 "quick release" attachment (non-functioning) for a British leg bag used extensively by both British and American Paratroopers for D-Day and Market Garden.
Construction:
- Milled steel body (one piece construction-nonfunctioning)
- Steel "pyramid brackets"
- Steel bolts
- Original WWII webbing
- 1:1 matching ink stamp.
The British leg bag was made infamous on D-Day by troopers of the 506th. Over the years there have been a few companies (SID44 included) that have made reproductions of these iconic bags, but one piece of equipment often missing from those reproductions is the quick release attachment that was used to attach the leg bag to a paratrooper's harness.
For Band of Brothers the props department casted reproduction buckles out of very brittle pot metal. These repos were okay for a film production where you barely see them but are not suitable for reenactor or museum use which is why we made these reproductions.
For the hardware we used 100% steel construction (with the exception of the original welded brass rings) making them nearly indestructible. The body of the piece is milled from solid steel and the steel pyramid brackets are attached to it with heavy steel bolts. All the webbing is 100% original.
Because the body of these repos are a 1 piece milled steel construction, they do not operation like originals. The black "collar" does not move up and down and the body does not split into 2 pieces like the originals. While not ideal we felt that this was a necessary evil because for one, people rarely disconnect originals and two, designing these to function like the originals would result in them be too expensive for anyone to afford.
